International Communication Services

A reliable, professional and highly qualified German native speaker with decades of experience in Life Sciences and linguistics.

Personal matters

As my surname suggests, I am a German with European connections. My parents come from an idyllic hill region in North-Rhine Westphalia called the Bergisches Land, my grandfather on my father’s side was born in Sheffield and my grandmother on my mother’s side was Dutch. Thus contact and communication with members of different language groups has always been a natural part of my family life.

At school I was fascinated by both sciences and languages. My first choice was to pursue a career in pharmacy, acquiring practical experience in a chemist's. Later I wanted to expand my horizon and reconnect to my international roots. As a result, I went on to enthusiastically study English and German language and literature.

The combination of my pharmaceutical experience and my Master’s degree (achieved with top marks) now gave me the opportunity to take on interesting tasks and responsibilities in the international HealthCare industry. Over the years I also added event and conference management to my portfolio. Nearly four years were spent with Fujisawa in Munich (now Astellas). Based in the Clinical Research, I organised numerous investigator meetings for international leaders in transplant medicine and dermatology. In addition, I began freelance work, undertaking work as a language teacher at home and abroad. For example, I taught German as a foreign language at the renowned Goethe-Institute in Damascus. The new millennium heralded a move into full independence as I set up my company, A Mix – International Communication Services. Since then I have been providing comprehensive linguistic and text services, largely in the Life Sciences Area.

Continued Professional Development

I am a member of the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators (Bundesverband der Dolmetscher und Übersetzer, BDÜ). Only highly qualified and experienced translators and interpreters may enter this prestigious German professional association.

Apart from that I was a member of EMWA (European Medical Writers Association) between 2004 and 2010. From 2004 until 2007 I participated in the EMWA Professional Development Programme (EPDP), a programme designed for the accreditation of medical writers and certified by a certificate (topics included medical statistics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacology etc.). I successfully completed this programme and obtained the EMWA Foundation Certificate (Multidisciplinary) in 2007.
